Manscaping Takes No Christmas Break

Straight Guy,

Just when the approach of winter compells we male animals to further thicken our body hair so that we can comfortably hibernate through the season . . . an article about why manscaping now makes us more attractive to our mates. Come on, people. Can't we all put being attractive on hold until spring?

I'm not anti-manscaping: Everyone likes to look and feel nice, and we all like our other halves to look and feel nice, so a certain amount of keeping it tidy is a good sign of physical and emotional hygiene. It's the Body Police attitude, the making yourself something you couldn't ever be --think Michael Jackson--that makes me worried.

The Gillette video and web site embedded in the news article is well worth looking at.

Read the article and look over the Web site and let me know what you think

Cute video. I do the manscaping but I do get lazy. Maybe I need to date now and then. It might encourage me to keep up with things. LOL.

I am not waxing my undercarriage.

I have to say I share the sentiment that back hair on guys is gross and if my significant other had back hair, I'd probably drop none-so-subtle hints about remedying that. I probably wouldn't even have to hint, as he already meticulously grooms his eyebrows to the point of them looking like he's given them a buzzcut (he's paranoid about developing "old man eyebrows" a'la Andy Rooney) and has made me swear to tell him if I see any signs of ear hair sprouting, heh. But "waxing the undercarriage"....uh, no. He'd never do it, and I wouldn't want him to. I think there's a fine line with too much hair removal, and our culture's present fixation with 100% hairless bodies is disturbing to me. I want my guy to be tidy, but not to be hairless like a prepubescent boy! The same goes for women and the current obsession with the Brazilian wax jobs. The prepubescent look is just wrong on so many levels!

I'll just have to assume that guys who groom themselves on that extreme level must be doing it at the request of their partners and also must have fantastic sex lives. Otherwise, the ROI is very questionable.

I'm not a huge fan of the hairy back, either. Do guys really equate hairy chests with masculinity? I guess not, or manscaping wouldn't exist in bodybuilding. Gee, at least you guys get a choice! With us gals, it's shave the legs, shave the pits, wax the bikini area, pluck the brows, color away the greys. UGH.

I guess I'd like to think there's some give and take with all this grooming...that both genders are doing a nice thing for each other.

Now, isn't that sweeeeet??

If manscaping means mountaintop removal of hair on backs, ears, etc., bring it on, baby! Now, about that Mormon muffin calendar...YIKES.

When I was younger, waaayyyy younger I thought men with hairy chest were very masculine. Don't judge (lol). Now with the changing landscape (heh) of masculinity, the metrosexual - I prefer a neatly groomed man who "trims the greens" down there, not completely, because it sort of reminds me if completely bald - of what Gingeralla said, pre-pubescent boys and that would be totally not o.k. for me.

I think back hair and chest hair is just gross especially if a man is sweating and beads of sweat are hanging on the hair. With that visual, I need to think good thoughts...
