Gay/Straight Ad Watch: Sex Sells and Anything Goes

Hyundai cars and science museums... not the sexiest topics I can think of.

I'm not exactly sure why Hyundai wants to label their buyers as grade-A skanks. Suggested slogan: "Hyundai. For those on the go... and those on the down-low."

Science World (a Canadian museum) was trying to go edgy, get noticed, and broaden their demographic. Who are they trying to bring in? What's your take, readers? "Oh no they di'n't!" or "You go girls!"

Does our objectification know no bounds?

I like the Hyundai commercial. Not sure if it is sexist, except for the stereotypical cowboy hat. I think the more we see images of same sex couples albeit in the media, it becomes mainstream. Instead the mainstream heterosexism. That's just my 2 cents.

Some advertising just goes WAY TOO FAR.

I like the Hyundai add - it's clever and funny!

Ok, the Hyundai ad made me laugh so loud my husband just asked from the other room if I was alright....and I liked the science one because I wasn't expecting it to be for that, but for...well, ice cream. I like quirky.

Okay....and I thought the Hyundai ad was stupid. Of course, the young-guy passenger in the lady's car annoyed me...not sure why. Probably 'cause he was too over-the-top-full-of-himself. I thought lady was gonna jump his bones at the light, at first. The cowboy passenger in hubby's car looked HOT.
I'm not sure what to make of the Science Museum ad...it was...bizarre. I guess I'm not used to thinking of cute little Grandmas in this way. I'm not sure anyone should...!

Up late. Can't sleep. I blame the vanilla grandmas ad. I fear the dreams that may come later tonight.

Hyundai ad: What is with all that gum chewing? Ick and gross.

Science World: Pretty brilliant concept and execution, but where do you show it?

The hyundai commercial is so not cool. I hate commercials that make cheating ok. It's not ok, period. The Science Museum commercial is hilarious! I love it. Even though they're making fun of older women, I feel like older people can be sexy and sensual, they're just not usually seen that way.
Disclaimer: I do not have a thing about older people (especially, OLD people) I just don't discriminate.

My 81 year old dad went to see Brokeback Mountain when it was in the theaters, to see what the buzz was about. His summary: "It was about adultery - they may be getting in touch with their true selves and all, but they were still cheating on a wife."

SG, don't you have Christmas toys to be assembling? Quit finding this stuff.

Seriously, I thought both ads were clever. I'm seriously anti-cheating, but she thought she was putting one over on him and pow! Right back atcha only better baby! The guy in her car was kind of annoying though, like an eager little puppy.

The science museum ad? It had me laughing and being grossed out at the same time. The jury's still out on that one.

I liked them both, though I agree that I don't condone the cheating thing. The grandma commercial was hilarious. I've got some persnickity old ladies around here who would love that one! Just one question: when would they show these commercials?

I keep re-watching the Vanilla Eroticism clip from the science museum. I keep laughing AND marveling at how smart it is. Not for everyone, but smart.
