Prop. 8 Over-turned

Straight Guy,

Today is a good day.

A federal judge has ruled to overturn California's same-sex marriage ban. Read: Prop 8 is overturned.

The language: Proposition 8 "fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples."

Rock it, Your Honor!

Does this mean I need to follow through with sending my California friends that wedding present now?

Wait for the appeal.

Good question about the gift, GG. Time for wedding etiquette advice columns to address LGBQT issues: "Of course, you should observe standard gift etiquette. Should you be tacky enough to forget to send a gift and gay marriage is banned in that particular state, you're absolved until the next appeal. At that time, you should immediately send a gift and not "pretend to forget" until THAT appeal is reversed."

Did they register?

Gay weddings could be just what we need to kickstart this troubled economy. Let's put all of that disposable income to good use...

WOOHOO! Do you ever watch Drop Dead Diva? Hmmmm....probably not.

ANYWAY. Sunday's eppy had a judge rule in favor of a same-sex couple involving a lack of a will when one passed away. He said to opposing council, "If you appeal my decision, it's my hope that you get another judge who believes it's not our job to judge whether two people can be in love."

I do believe I cried a little.
