Gee Whiz: The Number One Waterfall in California!

Gay Guy,

Is it true that the sound of running water can magnify the pressure of a full bladder?

I have no idea. But when you unzip in front of a four foot wide waterfall, you may not have a choice.

This photo is from the men's room at the Madonna Inn, just off the 101 in San Luis Obispo, CA. It's ground zero for kitsch on the west coast, so I assume your team is familiar. The lobby is filled with pink roses and each guest room is themed. I was hoping the steak house would be a haven for straight guys, but alas, it's upholstered in hot pink.

According to wikipedia, "Its famed rock waterfall urinal is a fixture along California's Central Coast. Many tourists come to visit the urinal, to the embarrassment of males who genuinely need to use the facilities."

Tell you what. If we ever get a project in Lompoc or Cambria, we'll check it out together.

I was wondering once you mentioned what they were for how that could possibly work-and who in the world thought something like that up anyway??

So you actually pee in that waterfall or is that urinal beside a waterfall. That is neat.

Wannabe: Left to right you see sinks, waterfall urinal, stalls. Does that help? Yes, you go right into the falling water.

I'm no sanitation engineer, but my first question before standing too close is, "Is this a continuous flush system...or just recycled pee splashing on me?"

Aw. But what about us gals? Totally not fair. Girls like to pee to running water too, ya know...

recycled pee ? Hope not!

Filing this one under "No Sir" in the bathroom realm. Creeks, rivers and lakes are one thing, this is purposely earthy. Do their stalls have a shovel next to a pile of dirt?

Oh yes, my people are well familiar with the Madonna Inn. I've never stayed. Not sure that I am really tempted to. Maybe just stop and have a drink if ever I am near.

I learned about it from the late-80s film "Aria." Ever see that? It was an opportunity for a diverse range of film director to create a small film illustrating or inspired by a famous opera aria. It's an interesting film that I should put on my Netflix list.

Anyway, the inn is a key feature in an aria from Verdi's Rigoletto. It starred Buck Henry and Beverly D-Angleo, so it was suitably surreal.

Check it out, folks.

I wanted to stop here while driving down to Solvang with my straight friend. Needless to say, all I got was a blurry shot of the sign taken while speeding past on the highway. I think it was for the best though... for both our sakes.
