Straight Guy,
I am slowly getting my 2010 act together. I've been in something of a slumber. One of the ways my lethargy shows up is that I've been in a news black out. I have almost no idea of what's going on in the world. The woman in the next office shrieked when she read that Sarah Palin is going into the news business . . . well, Fox . . . otherwise I'd be clueless there, too.
So, a friend forwarded me "Big Gay Battle," with a "What, no post?" Afterelton.com had, behind my back!, run Gay/Bisexual Man of the Decade. The winner: Neil Patrick Harris shoved his closest competitor, John Barrowman, off the award podium by a mile. (SG: Do you even know who John Barrowman is? Singer, dancer, actor.)
I'm unclear about what's the criteria for being Gay Man of the Decade, nor what the prize is. Sounds like a lot of pressure.
Anyway, how does Neil Patrick Harris sit with you? Who else might you had voted for?

John Barrowman was my choice. Gay or Straight I am so surprised when people don't know who he is. It's because he has been tucked away in the British Isles most of his adult career. John is an Entertainer. He sings, dances and acts and has for 20 years on West End stages as a leading man. He has also done some things on Broadway and US TV. He has been on numerous TV shows as a presenter/host and sought after guest. He has written two books with his sister Carole E. Barrowman. He is an actor who has made the role of Captain Jack Harkness of "Dr. Who" and his own show "Torchwood" so famous, people recognize him in South Africa and Australia. If you drop his name into YouTube search you will come up with thousands of videos and you will be amazed at how much he is loved by his fans. Although he is better known in the UK than he is in the US when you see what he does first hand you are bound to be a fan, gay or straight. He is talented, funny and real.
I don't know who John Barrowman is. Eeeeks. Does that make me a bad gay? I'm off to google him.
I'd vote for Barrowman.
His performances on Dr Who and the spin off Torchwood have beamed him into millions of UK homes.
I had no idea who John Barrowman is but when I googled him, I would have voted for him rather than Doogie Howzer...hehe, Only cause Mr. Barrowman is cuter!! What can I say.
Capt. Jack! Why didn't you say so? I don't know - he is good, but NPH has been around as well. I don't know about stage work, but he survived being a child actor, has shown some versatility, and is pretty damn funny (witness the Internet musical he was in last year or so ago). Depending upon criteria, it could go either way.
Barrowman is pretty darn adorable.
But, I stand by my first choice: Alistair Applegate.
Cute! Cute! Cute!
Did not know Barrowman by name or sight. I'll give Harris the edge here... but it's been over a year since "Dr. Horrible" so my goodwill won't last forever. I don't see his current sitcom, but we've mentioned him on the blog, both for hosting the Tony Awards and for hawking Old Spice, of all things. You'd think gays would take points off for that.
I love NPH. He plays such a great sex monger, and his character on How I Met Your Mother is a deadpan for a friend I have down in Houston. I do love his stagework. I never did see that internet musical. I'll have to go look it up.
Hmmmm, I haven't heard of John Barrowman either. But, I adore Neil Patrick Harris.
I love the whole concept of doing a straight gay/gay guy blog. Fabulous idea guys!
My best,
Lisa (mom to 3 gay adult children)

I enjoyed following the whole entry, I always thought one of the main things to count when you write a blog is learning how to complement the ideas with images, that's exploiting at the maximum the possibilities of a ciber-space! Good work on this entry!
