The Surfrider Foundation works to protect our oceans and beaches. They're out there on the sand and in the water, but they also have classroom education programs and public awareness campaigns. Great work all around.
Here's their timely campaign (planned pre-BP) on keeping our beaches pollution-free. These pin-up calendar photos are filthy! No, not the models -- the water and sand.
If any straight guys remain unaffected by news photos of turtles and pelicans covered in slimy crude, let them take a look at this, and see what's also at risk.
In terms of the greater tragedy in the Gulf, I'm at a loss, and constantly feeling like I should be doing something... other than being angry about it.

I saw that first picture on my dashboard and KNEW who it came from. LoL
Yeah..they're endangered species they are.
The balance is wrong. You hardly notice the pollution. Maybe the models should have a bit of grime.
I can hear the marketing guys in the meeting: "We'll take all these super-hot, sexy models and pose 'em in the dirty water...the public will be OUTRAGED! It'll send a clear message that polluted water is ONE thing...but making a bikini-clad model wallow in it is totally unacceptable."
(Guys around the table nod in robotic agreement...) UGH.
I've not heard of (nor have) a garbage sex fetish but I'm sure it's out there. I'm sure this is a big seller for men who want to have sex on garbage and filth - and I agree with Anon; if the message really were about cleaning up the oceans, the models would be grimier.
No matter what you do, someone will have a fetish, someone will object, someone will have a problem with the way it's presented.
In my view, the idea was done in the right spirit. And that, I commend.
