Gay/Straight Ad Watch: Truly, Madly, Deeply, Belatedly

Gay Guy,

If you or our readers missed this, here's a late Valentine's Day gift for you.

Yes. You heard right. Hooligans from a Tottenham pub turning Savage Garden into a stadium anthem, and a heartfelt valentine.

Nothing subtle about it. But it gets you, right there. Right?

Very nice. I haven't been serenaded by that many guys since last Valentine's Day!

They do make quite a bit of noise! But not bad!

That was quite fabulous and exactly the smile that I needed. Thanks.

Oy... maybe my gay gene makes me miss the point of this commercial; clearly I"m not the demographic Puma is targeting in this advert. But something about 30+ guys with shaved heads and missing a few teeth each shouting makes me nervous. I think I'd just prefer to skip Valentines Day all together.

I can't remember which one, but I think one of the British football team's fans use "You'll Never Walk Alone" as their stadium anthem.

I'm always a sucker for out-of-context cover songs...

I take it that the UK's National Health Insurance plan does not include dental coverage.

Actually, American narcissism has landed in Great Britain - I don't know about insurance coverage, but the famously bad British teeth are slowly disappearing. More Brits are getting teeth straightened, capped, whitened...along with more Botox and boob jobs.

"Never walk alone" is the anthem that plays in the Liverpool stadium. I believe. I have a big love of soccer and the EPL (the English MLS, only better).

And I hadn't known that American narcissism had crossed the pond.

I really liked the Proctor and Gamble commercials --the "Thanks, Mom" series. One of them used "You'll never walk alone." Really touching and took a new view about how families are part of athletes success.

Hey, Gay Guy -- are you suffering any post-Olympic Apolo Ohno withdrawl symptoms?

AGG:

I am suffering some Apolo Ohno withdrawl, but he's still all over the commercials.

The Olympics are pretty captivating for me. No, it's not just the lycra. It's the athleticism. And, the lycra.
