Gift to Gay Guy... Law and Order: UK

Readers,

Many years ago, I gave GG an old TV from my basement for his new apartment. He had gone for years without one and in fact had lived in the last building in the city with no cable connection. He pointed the rabbit-ear-antenna toward the local PBS affiliate and seemed happy for quite a while.

More recently, I helped him go flatscreen, purchase a wi-fi laptop, and advised him on a cable hookup option. Almost immediately, he was sucked into a new reality full of Law & Order reruns, and we often lost track of him for days.

So, yes. You can blame me for the corruption of GG on this issue (and this issue, only -- other complaints, take a number). I'm sure his fancypants book club despises me, but something had to be done. How else could this blog have come to be?

We once had a lunch-long debate over which L&O casting change hurt the most. Yes, I know the loss of Jerry Orbach was painful for everyone. But, in terms of eye candy, was it the departure of Angie Harmon or Benjamin Bratt?

So, since he's a fan of British drama and addicted to the L&O franchise, I'd be irresponsible if I didn't point him toward Law & Order: UK which now airs on BBC America.

I had no idea it existed until an hour ago. But maybe he has found it already. Have any of you? Is it any good?

It's interesting that you wrote about this today, because I just heard about Law and Order: UK this morning...

Admittedly, I'm quite intrigued by the thought of a British version. (Spent a lot of time watching the original L&O with my Grandma...)

I had seen commercials for it on BBC America, but not really being a L&O fan in the first place, haven't watched it. (sorry GG!)

But, since so many of our American shows are rip offs of British ones, I thought it amusing that the roles were reversed this time, lol!

So will Linus Roach appear on this version as his old US character and say, "Thank God I don't have to fake an American accent anymore!"? The last line-up really jumped the shark, for me. Jerry Orbach was fabulous - in anything.

I'm not going to lie, I was already a big Jamie Bamber (he plays Matt Devlin) fan before I spent three months in Wales, and then I discovered Law and Order UK and I would watch it on iPlayer every Thursday.

So, in short, I adore this show.

I have a confession to make - I've never seen Law and Order, CSI (any of them) or NCIS...

I've been watching this fall. It's so much better than it should be. They have literally taken old L&O scripts and updated and Britishized them. It ought to be the worst con ever. Instead, it's well-written and well-acted. Two thumbs up, SG. Put it on your Netflix queue now.

First of all, our damn cable company doesn't provide BBC America in our area. How ridiculous is that? I used to live in London and miss British television. Anyway, I have yet to see this or hear about it.
Now I want BBC even more.

Oh, SG. How could you have doubted that I am already all over L&O, UK? It's very very good. So much better than L&O LA, which was launched the same time.

The acting is good and the story lines are compelling. And, as Molly Louise points out, Jamie Bamber is smokin' hot.
