Viral Video: Gotta Dance! Gotta Dance!
Straight Guy,
This past weekend was Gay Pride here. I was ready to write my annual post about my ambivalence about Pride. Plus last night was the Tony Awards, which is always good for a Pride/Tony Award gay-high-holy-days mash-up post.
But, so much better, into my lap fell this viral vid. Now THIS is something that gives me pride to the bone.
Spotlight dancer Robert Jeffrey released this video of himself at age 9 lip synching to Madonna's "Vogue" at a New Hampshire resort. It's hilarious and contagiously joyful.
I thrilled that his parents let him have such great fun at 9 and kept the video intact. My dad would have yanked me off of video shoot and/or burned the evidence. These parents action is the stuff that inspires Pride in me these days. Maybe I'm old and cranky.
Speaking of old and cranky --"Vogue" is 20 years old this year? Impossible.

I thought of you two last night while checking the TV listing - Tony Awards vs. Game Six of the NBA Finals. Were either of you tempted to cross party lines? GG, I think you're only interested in college basketball? Most years I would have looked at the Tony Awards, but I relished seeing LeBron and Company get beat...which they did.
What's a LeBron?
That's hilarious. I admire his natural-born creativity and sense of rhythm.
I enjoyed this video on FB, but I didn't have time at the moment to think about why this made me so happy. You're right. In addition to the fun of watching a kid who knows he's performing well, it's the implied pride of the parents that thrills me.
And a LeBron is....what, again?
Happy Pride Month, everyone!
I immediately thought of the off-camera parents, too. Maybe they were wildly supportive, maybe they finally surrendered and a just let him do his thing. Either way, a victory. That the kid had this much creative confidence is a sign of good parenting.
BTW, LeBron is french slang for expensive disappointment.
