Let's Get Physical. The Pre-K Version
Straight Guy,
So, I'm trudging home in the cold and ice last evening, and I cross paths with a couple pushing a stroller with a young child in tow. I'd guess she was 3, maybe 4, tops.
Just as we pass, she starts to sing: "Let's Get Physical, Physical," the refrain of the song of the same title. For a second, I thought I had heard her wrong, but, no, it was was followed by, "I wanna get physical, physical," in perfect rhythm and pitch.
Had she been watching the Glee version from the episode where Olivia Newton-John guest stars in a video with with Jane Lynch? Or the 1981 original? Who knows?
I'm still chuckling.
Watch the ONJ's video. Oh, the early 1980s, look so cruel. Both the Glee version and the 1981 version have a lot of flesh, at least for a 3 or 4-year-old. Or am I being a prude?

So, I can tell you that I was a huge ONJ fan. At the time of this release, I was 6, and I honestly thought it was about getting in shape at the gym.
Now, I am the mom of a 6-year-old. My kid sings Katy Perry songs all the time. She doesn't ask questions, and I don't answer them. It's just a catchy tune as far as we both are concerned.
Haha, it's funny when thing like that happen!
But like JPro says, for kids it's just a catchy tune. It usually is for me as well, I don't really think too much about the lyrics when listening to a song.
A friend's 5 year old loves to dance to "I bet your girlfriend's not a freak like me", and my son loves to sing "Shake your Booty" from the 70s, as well as some songs we've had to look up. He likes "Fly like a G6" - fortunately, it refers to a private jet, but we had no clue.
Wow. I did not remember that the original video ended with the "all-the-good-ones-are-gay-or-taken" twist. Schlubby straight guy wins!
I was on a road trip this summer and had to break down the lyrics of "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" for my daughters... and my mother!
OMG...I hadn't watched the clip - I forgot how awful the first music videos were. Or, maybe they're great in their innocence and low-budget simplicity...I'm not sure.
Glee does that song too?! I am so behind it's not even funny...must. catch. up.
Gracious, I never saw this video, although I loved ONJ. How strange that we might have thought this was cute at the time. Ew.
